I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! I have read the other reviews and it has NEVER rolled up on me, EVER. Exfoliation issues? I have very oily skin that is sensitive. I tried going with the eco-friendly "Environmental Working Group" suggestions for non toxic sunscreens. Well I am here to tell you, I tried all of the top 20 recommendations (products are rated on a scale of least harmless to worst) and THEY ALL BROKE ME OUT! ALL OF THEM! This is the first physical block similar to the top picks but much more cosmetically sophisticated AND NO BREAK OUT. The tone reduces my redness and is somewhat matte. NO SMELL, WHICH I LOVE!

My HG of sunscreens! It has a nice matte finish, especially when I blot with a tissue right after applying it. It also acts as a base for my make up, helps it stay on longer. I use this product every day, and have never had any problems with it. I don't understand all the negative reviews here! This is a great product.

This is a very basic sunscreen. No reaction to my sensitive skin, probably because the active ingredients are titaniuim dioxide and zinc oxide I really haven't had any problems with it. Works for me.

This is a terrible suncreen, it rolls up in nasty balls if I try to apply make-up or anything on it, no matter how long I let it "sink in". Therefore I doubt it's effectiveness, I don't think it has any sun-blocking abilities when it rolls up and falls somewhere on my clothes (looks like greasy yellow dundruff). I've had for about 8 months, and I've almost finished the tube, but I didn't use it daily (because of the balls and the fact that it manages to creep into my non-existend lines (I'm 21! What lines?!?) and makes me look like 25...). I've tried to use very little product and I tried to drown my face in it, but no matter how much i used, it just didn't seem to stick to my face, exept when I used too much, my face became a sticky mess that atracted every kind of flying sh**. This is probably the worst sunscreen I've ever used.

I like this stuff a lot and wear either this or the Almost Makeup every day. I have acne prone combination skin but have not had any trouble with breakouts from this product even in the summer. It does feel a little thick but I didn't really find it hard to blend in. This product is sheer (no real tint, looks kind of whitish/light tan) so not sure why some reviewers are talking about it being the wrong color - it is not a tinted product although I think they used to make a tinted version.

I love Clinique, but this is weird stuff. Although it is oil-free, it feels really thick and creamy. Doesn't make my skin shine, though.
Too bad that it balls up a bit, and that it leefs an unnatural color film on your skin, like you put on a little bit of the wrong color foundation.
I think there are better sunscreens than this.

Greasy, kind of slimy, and even the fair to medium tint is way too orange for my pale skin.

I should have read the reviews on this site before using this (which I received as a GWP.) I'm in my twenties, but my skin hasn't changed that much since my teeenage years ... and this stuff made it break out like crazy. :( It's too bad, because it looks really nice on my skin. If you don't have acne-prone skin, you'll probably like this.

I have very oil skin. Despite this being oil free, it manages to give a very greasy feeling and turned my face into a mirror in no time. Now that there're more choices of facial sunscreen available, I think I will never buy anything in the City Block line again.

City Block is great! I almost always use this on top of my makeup, mostly because sunblock is an afterthought for me but occasionally I'll put it under & it works out just as nicely. I have very sensitive combo skin & this was great because it didn't leave me with oily patches or pink cheeks. I think the tube is pretty big & if you compare it to regular drug store brand sun blocks that are made for the face it is not expensive at all. continued >>

This is a nice matte oil-free sunscreen that works great on my combo skin. Protects from the sun and also works as a primer and keeps my tinted moisturizer in place. My only complaint is that the tube is really tiny, since it's an everyday product for me I wish I'd get a little more for my money.

I have an oily T-zone & sensitive skin with mild rosacea and I can't tolerate ANY chemical sunscreens. This has titanium dioxide which is a physical sunscreen; the only cons are that it can be a bit pore-clogging and thick-ish. But I love the sheer tint and the texture, it absorbs quickly and works well under my foundation. I make sure I wash my face religiously every night to prevent breakouts. I'll definitely buy again, but I'll probably get the higher SPF next time for the summer months ahead. continued >>

This is a good broad spectrum SPF 15 sunscreen. However, I have found that this product does not look particularily good under makeup unless I spend a lot of time rubbing it in, especially if my skin is flaky before applying this. Still, this problem is bearable because there are a lot of good things about this product like its gentleness, moisturizing capabilities, and lightweight look and feel. Clinique really shouldn't call this oil-free, because that is a marketing term that appeals to those with oily, acne-prone skin. I would refer this product to someone with normal to dry skin who does not tend to break out (titanium dioxide and zinc oxide might be problematic for acne-prone skin; if you have acne prone skin, look for a sunscreen product with avobenzone as an active ingredient). This product is a little overpriced; I purchased mine at a discount outlet department store called Off Saks Fifth Avenue at the Block in Anaheim, CA, for about $13.00.

For my sensitive rosacea skin this works. I use an adequate but limited amount followed by Aromaleigh Glissade for my summer day-to-day makeup and sun protection. I only moisturize as-needed before this to avoid moisturizer over-kill and causing breakouts. I have to go with primarily mineral sunscreens because avabenzone causes a terrible reaction on my skin. In general even with the mineral sunscreen strategy I walk a fine-line between effective sunscreen and skin irritation. So far, this one is the best fit for me in warmer weather combined with my Aromaleigh Glissade. In the cooler mos. I use Tarte Smooth Operator without the Aromaleigh (or just using it like a light powder). I took one lippie off because I wish they made a tinted version that was light enough for my skin - I guess I could try mixing the lightest tint with this one - hmmm maybe I'll give that a go.

Agree with others who said this product is a problem for acne-prone skin. I received this as a GWP - was pretty excited to try this. But to my disappointment, it broke me out. I have those white heads as well as the tiny bumps (skin color). I immediately stop using it. I have combo/oily skin, and I found the sheerness is not as obvious. It turned out kinda matte on my skin (which I prefer anyway due to my oily part of the skin). I'm using Banana Boat Sheer Protector SPF30 and has no problem at all. Update 7/31: I've been using Sage SPF25 for more than 6 months now and it's been great! No break out & not oily at all! continued >>

My daughter gave me a small tube of Golden as a GWP. It is indeed, sheer, so if you do not have a perfect complexion or have used concealer, it's not for you to wear sans foundation. It has a pearly glow which is pretty but it is sheer. It is an SPF and blocks BOTH UVA and UVB rays. Unfortunately, I have to wear a 65 pharmaceutical grade due to facial laser, but I think it is nice for a bit of glow dabbed here and there. In other words, I consider it more a facial shimmer than a sunscreen. Will try with mineral makeup on top and update, however. My lippie rating takes into account that it is not a bad product merely because it does not work for me without makeup.

Well, at least I'm not the only one who's skin has taken a turn for the worse when using this. *sigh* another expensive mistake. Oil free or not, a closer look at the ingredients reveals some that are very problematic for acne-prone skin. This also doesn't feel very sheer IMO. Rather oily and mask-like without any sinking in or dry down. For those of you without breakouts, this might be a decent option for you.

BREAKOUT-CITY! ZITS, ZITS, and more ZITS! Too high titanium dioxide concentrate for me - a PPP oily/combo, sensivive, in summer; normal/dry winter. Contrary to what many counter-persons will tell you, chemical sunblocks work better for my skin than huge amounts of titanium dioxide or zinc. 4% is my limit. Paula Begoun can tell you more about this thru her books/website.

THIS STUFF MADE ME BREAK OUT WITH BIG PAINFUL ZITS ALL OVER MY FACE. I AM DISGUSTED WITH THIS PRODUCT. AVOID THIS STUFF AT ALL COSTS. My HG "almost makeup" that I've used for a few years seems to "expire" after so long and begins to break me out. Needless to say, I will not repurchase and I am very angry to boot!

After reading so many glowing reviews of City Block, I was surprised it broke me out. In fairness, all sunscreens I'd used previously also caused breakouts. Surprisingly, I am able to use the heavier SPF 30 Defense Day Cream without skin eruptions. More protection, less trouble - easy choice.
